What is ISO 9000 / 9001
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is located in Geneva, Switzerland. Its purpose is to facilitate and support international trade by developing standards that people everywhere would recognize and respect.
ISO achieves this purpose through the participation and support of its member bodies. These member bodies represent standards organizations from several countries.
The ISO 9000 Standard represents:
An accepted method of good management practices which enable an organization to repeatedly deliver its products or services that meet customers quality requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements. An organization can enhance customer satisfaction, and continually improve its performance by implementing this standard.
Companies that comply with this standard can benefit from working within a structured framework, with supporting policies and procedures, that all staff adhere to in order to meet the stated quality policy.
The current ISO 9001: 2015 (ISO 9000) standard is the basis of a number of other industry standards, where additional industry specific requirements have been included to produce a new standard. Two of these standards are AS 9100: 2016 International Aviation, Space & Defence requirements and ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System requirements.
· The current basic Quality Management Standard is ISO 9001: 2015. The most recent version of the ISO 9001 standard was released on September 29, 2015.
